Why is an observation room important?

                                                                • Observing your child and team members is extremely important.
                                                                            * Observing your child helps you know how he/she is growing and changing.

                                                                                * You can also see your child from a different perspective, helping you add to his/her program easier.
                                                                                * Observing your team members is imperative for giving feedback that keeps your team grow with your child.
                                                                                * There is a smaller chance of a team member intentionally harming your child when they know they could be observed at any moment.  This provides peace of mind for parents.

                                                                Why are mirrors helpful?
                                                                • It's easier for a child to make eye contact through a mirror because there is twice as much distance between the two of you.
                                                                             * Eye contact is one of the challenges we typically work on in the playroom as a way to help your child learn imitation and make connections with people.

                                                                • Children can watch themselves in the mirror.
                                                                           * When a child sees himself in the mirror, it can help them create more self‐awareness and curiosity.

                                                                Helpful Hints:
Make sure your observation room is dark or has a dark curtain to ensure light doesn't get through.
Darkness in the observation room makes the film turn into a mirror.
Light in the observation room turns it into a tinted window.
The typical observation room in a house is a hallway.
Hanging an extra wide black curtain on the window in the hallway makes a great observation area.
